Matthew’s Story

Matthew is a funny and spirited boy who lives life to the fullest. His life took an unexpected turn at just 18 months old when doctors discovered a Wilm’s tumor on his kidney. Within days, Matthew underwent a major surgery to remove a two-pound tumor followed by 19 weeks of intensive chemotherapy. Throughout his recovery, Matthew and his family found community with The Dragonfly Foundation. While his medical team focused on his health, Dragonfly focused on his happiness, providing a lifeline of support and joy during their darkest days. From the magic of the annual Christmas party to the thrill of walking onto the field with FC Cincinnati players, these experiences have replaced “hospital memories” with pure childhood wonder. Today, Matthew is a brave survivor. He continues to thrive with the support of his family, his medical team, and his Dragonfly community, proving that even the smallest fighters can overcome the biggest obstacles.
